Swing dancing has become a enormous part of my life. Not only is it dancing, but it’s a social community. It’s so funny the people you meet at a swing dance and trust me I met them all… the characters to the averages, the students to the retired.
This past Friday, I was at a swing dance. We had a terrific crowd of mostly younger kids… college aged, however, every age was represented. I was very busy running around being “instructor.” For instance, I danced, taught, and met many new people, including this older gentleman. If I’m remembering correctly, his name was Dan. I’m guessing he was in his 60s or 70s. We ended up dancing a couple times that night. He was a super lead and I had a fun time dancing with him. It made me think of my pap-pap…. He and my grandmother could really “cut a rug” especially with their polka!! It kinda made me wish he were still around. I think it would be stellar to dance swing with him, teach him some moves…. I’m sure he would have loved that. Hopefully, he’s up there watching my moves. I bet he’s proud, if he is.
