Jed and I are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon March 26-30th!! This is so exciting, because the Canyon has been on my bucket list. This will be the first time, in all my years of college and work, that I will be going on a trip during Spring Break. Normally, any time I had off I would go to Johnstown, however, don't worry family! Jed and I are coming the following Friday. We wanted to fly into Pittsburgh after the trip, but of course Contempra has dance classes that week (I'm off UMDGC and AIS all week). Therefore, I have to work Wednesday-Friday. Hence the reason we are flying into Philadelphia Wednesday morning (boo).
Jed had spring training in Phoenix before, so he always had this desire to show me around Phoenix. I guess there's some pretty interesting restaurants he used to hang out at. We are flying into Phoenix first. Trying to make the trip as cheap as possible, we are going to look into couch surfing (neat little idea that makes any trip affordable. Check it out at couchsurfing.com) and spending the night with one of his friends. We'll get in late at night on Friday, therefore, Saturday will be devoted to Phoenix restaurants and hiking up Camel Back Mountain. Then we'll take our rental car and drive 2 hours to Flagstaff, AZ that night and hopefully surf a couch.
Sunday:
Wake up in Flagstaff and drive 2 more hours to the South Rim of the Canyon. This is the most popular side to visit. We are going to hike down one of the trails, because taking a mule down cost $150 per person and you have to make reservations 6 months in advanced! We probably won't go all the way to the bottom, because it's said that for every step down the trail there's 2 for the way up!! I'm sure we'll see Museums or maybe an imax movie this day too. The plan is to drive back to Flagstaff that night. The West is SO spread out and there are NO hotels near the Canyon. So, I'm going to bring lots of mixed CDs for the trip. I'm sure Jed and I will invent a travel game or two.
Monday:
Here's the big trip! Driving 5 hours to the West Rim of the Canyon. There you can find the skywalk. It's a glass walkway out into the canyon. Looks pretty cool. However, we are confused about the pricing and might cut it out of the trip plans if it's too expensive. With the Skywalk, there's an Indian village and a "western Town" where we can see cultural native dances. Then on our way to Las Vegas that evening, we are stopping at the Hoover Dam. The tour is too expensive, so will look at it from a distance. Still will be awesome. We'll sleep in or around Vegas that night.
Tuesday:
Now don't get us wrong. Either of us have a "Vegas" personally, but it's close to the West Rim and cheaper to fly out of. There's tons of FREE things to do in Vegas also. We found Gardens, fountain shows, chocolate Factory, and Aquariums all with free admission. I think walking down the strip would just be an experience. We are flying out that night around 11pm.
So there's our plans. We're pretty excited about the whole thing! I just need to borrow someone camera and I'll be set!
