Difficulties

Jonah was doing so great with a nightly schedule. We would put him to bed around 8 or 9. He would wake up to eat at 4am and then again at 7am. We were just about to move him over to his crib and then everything changed. He got his shots on Monday after the beach. That threw off everything. We started putting him to bed at 7pm because he would be so tired after eating, it just naturally happened. The first night I thought he would wake up around 9pm for one more feeding, but he kept on sleeping. We kept putting him down at 7pm, because he would get over tired and we kinda liked having more time to ourselves in the evening. His first feeding is starting to be earlier and earlier.

Last night I fed Jonah at 12:30am and 6am. It's not that bad, however, his quality of sleep between feedings has been very light. Lots of waking up and fussing. Jed and I aren't sleeping that great, because of it. I really hope it's still the shots that are messing him up. I hope he goes back to a good schedule with good solid sleep stretches.

His naps have been short too with lots of protesting. I know he's tired, but he refuses to lay down. Does anyone know how long a 3 month old should nap? How frequently and for how long? He used to take an hour long nap.

He also is getting extremely upset when I try to breast feed him. He has trouble latching, which has never been a problem for us. He gets so upset, he starts screaming. Today I tried the nipple shield and it helped greatly. It would help him latch and calm down. Once my milk let down, I would unlatch him, take the shield off, and re-latch him. He would be fine then.

I really hope the vaccines are to blame.

Just when you think things have settled into a routine, it changes. Could be the shots (so glad you are vaccinating, btw), but I think it's more likely that it was the vacation. When in doubt, blame it on a growth spurt. That's what Troy and I do. I think at 3 months, mine went from napping on an off throughout the day,to a morning nap for an hour and an afternoon nap for 2 hours or so. Night sleeping was different for all of them depending on growth spurts, teething, etc. As a general rule my kids dropped their morning nap at around 10 mo. and kept one afternoon nap.
