Some of you know about my upcoming trip to Haiti with Indigenous Pitch. We are doing a free music and dance camp for the children down there. We are looking for donors. Please read about this exciting trip and if you are inclined to give there's more information on our website. First let me let you about us.
About Indigenous Pitch Dance Collective: Indigenous Pitch Dance Collective, Inc. is a collective of ethnically diverse Philadelphia-based dance companies whose goal is to create and perform works of artistic excellence that reflect and highlight the diversity of our city and its native, homegrown dance styles. We support emerging choreographers by providing rehearsal space, critical feedback and performance opportunities in which to explore and develop their artistic styles. Through the art of dance, we assist and nurture children affected by natural and/or socio-economic disasters. We fulfill this mission with performances, residencies and workshops throughout the United States and abroad.
Indigenous Pitch Dance Collective, Inc. is pleased to announce the receipt of matching funds for its first international outreach, in Haiti. Versabar, a New Orleans-based company, will match all funds, up to $10,000 given to the organization's Haiti program.
Indigenous Pitch Dance Collective will be taking their healing, transformational arts camps to Haiti in July 2010. The organization has been invited by L'Universite Chretienne du Nord d’Haiti. The university, in Limbe, Haiti, requested the organization visit based on their work in New Orleans and Philadelphia. UCNH will host approximately 10 IPDC arts educators, a doctor, and an expected 100 children for a creative arts camp July 5th through 9th. Many of these children are displaced from devastated Port au Prince.
Jon Khachaturian, founder of Versabar, an engineering firm, has been witness to the life-changing work of IPDC in New Orleans. He encouraged his company to support the international expansion of IPDC because of the joy, purpose and creativity he observed during the camps in New Orleans in 2009. According to Khachaturian, "Through the camps, the group can show love to these children...in a unique and exciting way!"
States Executive Director Nicole LaBonde, "We are so grateful for the support and vision of Versabar and Mr. Khachaturian. I know this gift will encourage our current donors to rise to the occasion! It is also a great challenge to inspire new supporters!"
