It all started on Thursday night when we were getting ready to go to bed. Jed turned to me while we were getting under the covers and said, "They haven't hired a head coach at Eastern yet." Jed had sent in his resume a couple weeks before, but upon meeting with the Athletic Director, found out he was not qualified for the position having no college coaching experience. They wanted him to join the team as an assistant coach. Jed and I talked it over and agreed it would be a good career choice for him, but even up to that Thursday night Jed couldn't get himself to write an email of confirmation for the assistant job.
"Maybe God is delaying my response. Wouldn't it be awesome if they just decided to give me the job," Jed said. We laughed it off and admitted that would be somewhat of a miracle.
The very next day...
Jed received a phone call in the Mail Center from Brad Fields, the athletic director, asking him to go to lunch along with a couple of other coaches from Eastern. Of course Jed said yes, and still thought that maybe they wanted to talk more about being an assistant. This was until Jed got into the car with the coaches, who immediately started asking serious questions about coaching and which types of things he prefers in a program. Jed phrased things in a way that would indicate what he would do somewhere down the line if he ever got a chance to be a head coach. By the end of lunch Jed was realizing that all signs were pointing toward the possibility that he could get offered the HEAD coaching position. Sure enough Brad called Jed yet again after lunch asking if he could meet with him in his office after work. Confirming Jed's feelings from earlier in the day, an offer was made for the head coaching job, and once again God's hand was all over our lives! The position is an increase in Jed's salary, a chance to be home at better times and a chance to use all of the skills that he has accumulated through baseball and working with the community.
We feel so blessed and humbled by all God has given us.
